As quartz is man manufactured, it does not have the same natural look when compared to mined materials like Granite or Marble. However, there have been new advancements in stone manufacturing which try to recreate a more natural look in quartz. On the other hand, if you are a fan of stylish, clean and minimal designs inspired by the latest quartz design trends, then quartz countertops are a great fit for your kitchen.

Pros:

  • Manufacturing process allows a wider variety of colors and designs, so you can be more creative with your kitchen remodeling project
  • Non porous material, so you do not have to worry about spills
  • It will not chip, and is scratch resistant, ideal material if you spend a lot of time in your kitchen
  • Low maintenance, easy to clean

Cons:

  • Not so resistant to heat when compared to other materials, so you should be careful with placing hot dishes on the surface
  • Higher tier when it comes to price, but still competitive with other materials
  • Not the best solution for outdoor use

More Information About Quartz Countertops

Quartz is a type of man-made material (an engineered stone), made from natural silicon dioxide and synthetic materials. More than 90 percent of its substance is composed of ground quartz, and rest is polyester resin. It was originally produced in Italy, where the technology for quartz production was first developed.

Due to its engineered qualities quartz is more more durable, less-porous and more resistant to direct damage compared to its natural counterparts. Because of this, quartz is popular in kitchen countertops, indoor walls, floor tiles, and fireplaces. Note that quartz should not be confused with Quartzite, which is a natural type of material mined from the earth, and does not involve technological processes during its creation. Although the names sound the same they posses very different qualities.
